What is Allied Health? 

An Allied Health Professional has completed a University course in a speciality area of health care. They often work with you, your GP or other healthcare specialist to provide a unified holistic approach to healthcare.

Allied Health Professionals can be found in private practice, community health centres, medical clinics, hospitals, aged care facilities, schools and universities.

Art Music Therapist
uses visual art such as drawing, painting, and sculpture or music and creative play as a form of psychotherapy
uses a range of tests to check hearing
uses spinal adjustments to realign the joints of the spine and to treat back pain
works with groups and individuals on diet and nutrition to treat or manage diabetes, heart disease, obesity, cancer, food allergies and food intolerances
Exercise Physiologist
advises on physical activity and lifestyle habits

that prevent and manage injuries or chronic disease
Medical Radiation Practitioners
use x-rays and ultrasounds to diagnose or treat injuries or disease
Occupational Therapists
help people to improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environment. They work with individuals who have conditions that are mentally, physically, emotionally and/or socially disabling
use a range of techniques such as soft tissue work, stretching and manipulation of the skeleton and muscles to promote mobility and balance
designs, makes and fits an appliance to protect and
an injury as it heals
prepares and dispenses medicines, advises on the use of medicines
treats musculoskeletal injuries such as back and neck pain, sports injuries using manual therapies, stretching exercises and exercise programs
treats foot, ankle and lower limb disorders through surgical and non surgical approaches
designs, makes and fits artificial devices to replace absent body parts

treats mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, eating disorders

Social worker
helps people to deal with personal or social problems by offering services such as counselling or referral to other professionals
Speech pathologist
works with people of all ages who have speech or swallowing difficulties
