  • providing access to RACGP accredited Cultural Awareness Training which can be via  “Face to Face” or online services to satisfy the Indigenous Health Incentive requirements
  • encourage uptake of Aboriginal health assessments, provide information on related MBS items to identify and reduce incidence of chronic disease or risk factors
  • work in conjunction with the SWMML - Aboriginal Outreach and Care Coordinator workers to improve health outcomes and relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Cultural Awareness Training

As part of the requirements for registration under the PIP Indigenous Health Incentive, at least two staff members from the practice, one of whom must be the GP, will need to have completed a cultural awareness training program.

Cultural awareness training assists general practice staff that work with Indigenous clients and aims to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by enhancing the Cultural Awareness of General Practioners and allied health care professionals.

Participants will

  •  extend their knowledge about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture
  •  explore how attitudes and values can influence perceptions, assumptions and behaviours in a clinical setting
  •  discuss key issues facing the practice team and Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander peoples
