Suicide Prevention Service

The Suicide Prevention Service provides support to people in the community who are at increased risk of suicide or self-harm.

Eligibility Criteria

  • People residing within the local government area of Wyndham and Hobsons Bay
  • People who after a suicide attempt or self-harm incident, have been discharged from hospital or from an Accident & Emergency Department into the care of their GP
  • People who have presented to their GP after an incident of self-harm
  • People who have expressed strong suicidal ideation to their GP

Exclusions

This service is not designed to support people who are at acute and immediate risk of suicide or self harm.

What is provided?

In most cases people can access the service for up to two months with no limit on the number of sessions available.

Services provided under the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service does not impact on a person's entitlement to ATAPS General Component or otherATAPS programs such as Perinatal Depression, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, Child Mental Health or other Medicare subsidised allied mental health services such as Medicare Better Access Program

Referral Process

GPs can refer to the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service by completing the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Referral Form and attaching a letter explaining the presenting issue and level of risk. Clients must give consent and receive the Client Rights & Responsibilities and Privacy Information brochures.

Please fax the completed ATAPS Suicide Prevention Referral Form  with client consent to SWMML on 8742 4457.

ECATT from Werribee Mercy, Williamstown and Footscray hospital can also refer to the ATAPS Suicide Prevention Service by completing the Suicide Prevention Provisional Referral Form and attaching the ECATT assessment. Clients must give consent and receive the Client Rights & Responsibilities and Privacy Information brochures.
